Copy that exe over to your game installation directory, and overwrite the `midtown2.exe` file.

The password for the ZIP file is `lonebullet`. Some virus scanners don't like these, due to the way they override the game's functions, but not to worry this download appears safe. I downloaded this crack from the link below.

For those that have never used these before, you replace the game's main EXE with an identical version, and upon doing so you can play the game without the CD. The anti-theft stuff doesn't work on Windows 10, which requires the CD to be inserted, which ironically is what is keeping it from running. They installed fine, but wouldn't start at all. Posting here hoping to save someone some time. So tell me guys is this video I found on YouTube legit cause i have no issues on playing the game till now :D

Luckily for me I have a dual boot system Windows 10 Pro and Windows 7 Ultimate so I installed all my old classic games on WIN 7 and newer ones on WIN 10.Īfter following this guy's instructions on WIN 7 the game plays just like I remember it but with 60 FPS and a widescreen patch too. I realized also that the intro and music may or may not play on Windows 10 due to some changes after using the files in the YouTube video this guys gives us. I admit the process behind getting it to play or Windows 10 and Windows 7 was not easy for me as I couldn't understand it well so after reading and searching I came across a video on YouTube where the person explain in detail what has to be done to get the game working and on 60 solid FPS as well.

(Or maybe this is wrong, but I can't figure out the stuttering problem.) I installed the "mouse fix" from microsoft but that didn't change anything.I am informing everyone here related to Midtown Madness 2 as mentioned I own the genuine DVD of the game. Some further research seems to indicate that Microsoft has changed DirectX so that DirectDraw calls are now emulated, and I suppose 100X slower. Since VMware has 3d pass-through, the Windows 7 VM ran the game perfectly using the video card, no stuttering, but I saw the same problem on the Windows 8.1 VM as on the real machine. So this comparison was on identical VMware virtual hardware, with stock drivers. Then I tested the game inside two virtual machines using vmware-a Windows 7 VM, and a Windows 8.1 VM. I also installed directx 9.0c by downloading it from microsoft.

The CPU is plenty fast to do that, but the problem then is that the game only offers low resolution and downgraded effects in that mode.Īt first I thought it must be my intel and/or nvidia drivers on the new laptop, so I updated them.

The first problem is annoying, but I can sort of halfway read the text by straining my eyes, but the second problem seems to have no solution, other than running the game with a software renderer. * the video output in the game stutters horribly, giving me about 1fps, on a m760 (yes, a 13 year old game that ran superbly on a geforce2 32mb gtx on my old athon 850mhz is now giving my 1fps). * the text in the pick boxes (where you pick options of a popup list) is slanted at about 60 degrees and very hard to read, One in particular I really like is Midtown Madness, but I've just about given up on getting it to work properly. After getting a new Windows 8 laptop (and updating to 8.1 to get the start button back), I tried installing some older games that were working fine on my Windows 7 machine onto Windows 8.1.
